BUCKET LIST #35: Drive along the 17-Mile Drive
And at the end of the day, your feet should be dirty, your hair messy, and your eyes sparkling.
Pebble Beach is one of the most enchanting scenic drives in the world. The 17-Mile Drive is the route that takes you around the Pacific Ocean coastline. It includes 21 points of interest, each encompassing its own unique picturesque view.
It’s about 125 miles south of San Francisco. If you’re ever in the area, make the time to drive down. Better yet, make Pebble Beach a travel destination and spend a couple of days there. It has several golf courses throughout the community, picnic benches along the beach, and magical views of the ocean you will never get enough of.
We entered the community gates via Highway 1, which is where the first of 21 points begin. There is an entrance fee of $10 if you are not a member and you are given a map of the area. Just follow the 17-Mile Drive signs and it will take you to each point. We didn’t stop at every single point because I had no interest in exploring the golf courses. I just wanted to see the ocean views and take tons of photos.
We only scheduled to be at Pebble Beach for a couple of hours. We were on our way back home from San Francisco when we made the intentional detour. When we left Pebble Beach, I decided I wanted to go back one day. The short time we were there was not enough for me to have soaked in the beauty of the place. I want to linger and relax. We did not have time to do that knowing we still had roughly six hours of driving time. But one day, I will go back, and have more stories and photos to share.
